Is the Eventbrite necessary to participate?

I found out about this hackathon a few days ago, but I could only enter on the mailing list. I wouldn't be able to attend at 9:00am regardless. Will there be speakers/demonstrations/information available only at the event? Will one's physical presence/a pen-and-paper registration be absolutely necessary to make a submission?

    Hi schnevets - All eligible participants have to be registered through Eventbrite in addition to ChallengePost. You must physically be at the beginning of the event (register in person) and attend the presentation/demo portion of the event in order to make a submission and be eligible.
